Attachment "Save as…" SDCard is actually on Phone Storage!

I receive an email. It has one or more attachments (e.g. JPG’s).
I want to save the JPG attachments in a “Pictures” folder on my SD card which is then viewable with the phone’s Gallery app. So I click the attachment icon in MailDroid, and then I check the JPG’s, and then I push the “Save as…” button.
A dialog then appears that gives me five choices for where to save these attachments:
SDCard
Dropbox
Box.com
Google Drive
OneDriveI tap on the SDCard item, expecting it to then reveal an Explorer-view of my SD card, so that I can navigate to where I want to save these attachments. Presumably the location I then select will be selected, and also its name saved so that it gets re-presented to me as the initial default target location the next time I want to save attachments.
Well, THAT’S NOT WHAT HAPPENS.
Instead, I get placed in a folder named SDCard/root/, which apparently is actually a folder or location on Device Storage… but which is not actually the SDCard at all.
I can then navigate DOWNWARD in this device storage folder location, in assorted different ways, eventually getting to a folder named Pictures which I must have created myself at some time in the past. Inside it are three of my own user-created folders: Photos, Screenshots, and TripAdvisor. I don’t recall when I somehow created these but apparently I did.
Now I can get from SDCard/root/ down lower to my Pictures folder (on Device Storage) using multiple navigation methods:
(1) -> SDCard -> Pictures
(2) -> Storage -> emulated -> 0 -> Pictures
(3) -> Storage -> SDCard0 -> PicturesNevertheless, this Pictures folder is on Device Storage, and not on the SDCard where MailDroid implied it was placing it.
Now I can then manually MOVE those saved JPG’s from Device Storage over to my real target Pictures folder on the SD card (which is what the Gallery app is looking at), by using the MyFiles app on the phone:
(a) open MyFiles app
(b) tap on All Files
(c) tap on Device Storage
(d) tap on Pictures, which turns out to be SDCard/Root/SDCard/Pictures as presented by MailDroid. Again, this is on local phone storage, and not actually on the true SD Card as one would think
(e) tap on that Photos folder, which is where I ultimately had saved the JPG’s through MailDroid
(f) check all the JPG’s I want to move from the Pictures\Photos folder on Device Storage to the Pictures folder on my SD Card (for Gallery app)
(f) tap on the triple-dot “function icon” in the upper-right, and select MOVE
(g) select SD Card as the target location for the MOVE
(h) navigate to the Pictures folder on the SD Card
(i) tap on the “move here” button to complete the MOVEIn other words, I can manually recover from the incorrect location that MailDroid placed my attachments at through the “Save as…” dialog. Ultimately, I can manually move those saved JPG’s over to my Pictures folder on SD Card storage where I wanted them to be placed by MailDroid.
But my bug report is: when MailDroid’s “Save as…” dialog is presented, the SDCard item should really be the external SD Card, and not the emulated SDCard folder on local phone storage. The dialog currently does not provide any way to choose EITHER (a) internal phone storage or (b) external SD card storage. It simply places me in phone storage even though I’ve tapped on “SDCard”.
