I am running Maildroid 4.26 on Android 6.0.1 on a Motorola X Play. I am unable to change the interval at which the mail accounts poll the server. I am trying to stop this from happening automatically because I want full manual control as to when I download mail.

I have 12 accounts all using IMAP. Each is configured as follows:

Settings – Advanced – Connection management. I have configured a new rule called manual sync. This is configured to “close connection when I exit mailbox” both for WiFi and Data. The “Never Check Mail” box is ticked.

The Connection Management screen shows a rules list with “1. manual sync” at the top, then a line, then “2. Default”

The problem is that the phone just carries on downloading mail instantaneously whenever mail hits the server. This the same for all accounts.

I can’t delete the Default rule.

Can anyone help please? Is there something I am missing?

Sorry for the nonsense in the first sentence. Obviously, being IMAP, I mean the interval at which the server pushes out the new mail. Markf.

OK, on further scrutiny I have realised that the connection between the app and any of the associated servers is now dead until I open the app. Then, mail is automatically synced. So it seems that there are three ways to “manually” check for mail,

Open the app
Use the Sync icon
Pull down and let go of the screen

So the question now is, can I open the app without causing it to sync?

This is a very sophisticated and beautifully designed piece of software.
