I posted this query in the Google group recently, but it didn’t seem to get picked up on.
If you tap on the sender’s name in an incoming email you can see the email address. But not if the sender is in your contacts list, then you only have the option to view the contact. Some of my contacts have multiple email addresses, and I want to know which one they’ve used, in which case this doesn’t help.
Even if it’s a contact I still want to be able to quickly peek the actual address used in the email.
Hope you can enable this.
Thks

Thanks for this feedback. Let me see what we can do here.

I look forward to getting this fixed, too.
Thanks.

Why not add another item to the MENU popup list (when reading the email), such as “show all header address fields” or something like that?
Rather than change anything in the underlying email already being presented on the screen, you could then superimpose an “overlay” view (like the “choose a folder” superimposed overlay) showing all of the TO, FROM, CC, etc. fields in their actual form.

This is an issue for me too! I need to see the email address of the sender. If I click on the sender it takes me to the contact, that contact may have several email address. We need to be able to click on th name of the sender and simply just see the email address the email was sent from.

Have you tried this recently? When I tap on the sender I see the email address used. When I then tap on that email address, Maildroid takes me to the contact.
Then there’s also the “show header” menu entry to see all header elements of the email. There you can check the “From” line. -

Clicking the sender does not bring up the email address, if it did, I wouldn’t have wrote what I wrote. It DOES bring me directly to the contact. Using the menu option headers, is a long way to a simple solution/correction. But yes, headers of course does show the email address the email was sent from.

I’m using Maildroid Pro 4.07, maybe that’s the reason your app behaves different from mine? Unfortunately the info given for Maildroid Pro in Google Play does not state anything about this difference. And I understand that you might not be willing to spend that kind of money for such a simple feature.

I’m using 4.07 Pro. Yes. The paid version.

This is really weired. I can only tell you how the app behaves on my phone (Oneplus One, Stock Anroid Lollipop 5.1.1, i.e. CyanogenOS 12.1)

I’m also using 4.07, and it exhibits this problem, same as it has for several versions.
The behaviour depends on whether the sender address is already in the phone’s contact list. If not, then it behaves as Alestrix describes, and when you tap the second time on the displayed address it goes to Contacts, showing a new contact it has just created.
But if the address is already present as a contact, it simply goes directly to the contact and you don’t see the address. You can of course see the email address in the contact info, but the problem is if the contact has more than one address. You then can’t tell which specific address the email was sent from – sometimes this matters!

No, the above was done with an email written from my wife and you can rest assured I have her contact in my phone’s address book. 🙂

Interesting. I’m also running stock 5.1.1, pure Google on a Nexus 4.
I do have a 3rd-party dialler and contacts app installed – does that make a difference? I could try uninstalling it, just need to make sure I can save the preferences so I don’t have to do it all again when/if I re-install.
-

If your phone is rooted you could use TitaniumBackup to restore both the diaper app and its settings. But I seriously doubt installing the dialer/contacts app would make a difference, because the “different path” in our two cases is taken within Maildroid.

By the way: I have tested this now also on my LG Tablet running Maildroid free and it shows the same (desired) behavior as my phone, i.e. first tap shows address, second tap shows contact (or new contact dialog, depending on whether it’s a known address or not).

Interesting. I’ve now tried it on a Nexus 7 with stock 5.1.1, no special contacts app, and I get the same undesired behaviour as the phone.
Joe – can you throw any light on what’s going on here?

Because this really sounds strange I did a few screenshots so we can be sure we’re talking about the same thing:
For this example I took an email from my parents.
Left: View after opening the email
Middle: View after tapping on the sender’s name. The email address shows.
Right: After tapping on the email address, the contact opens. In this particular example the contact has only one email address, but the behavior is the same with other contacts who have more than one email address.

Thanks for the screenshots, but they confirm that we are not talking at cross-purposes, and that your devices behave differently from mine (as well as some other people’s apparently!).
I only get your middle image for senders that are not in my contact list. For those where I do have the contact it goes directly from image 1 to image 3.

Just did another test in a folder that is not my inbox and I get the undesired behavior that you describe.
Can you do the test in your main inbox folder? -
October 8, 2015 at 9:01 am #563
I confirm the reported behavior. Galaxy S4, MailDroid Pro 4.07, Android 5.0.1.
Email in a user folder, placed there by Mail Rules. Sender is also in my phone’s Contacts, with an email address present (that matches the FROM address in the email).
Tapping on the sender’s name shown by MailDroid when reading the email (in the user folder) goes immediately to the Contact entry for the sender. It does not first expand to show full email address or anything. Just goes right to Contact entry.

I see the bug in my inbox (inboxes of all the accounts I use in fact) as well as other folders. The inbox is where I’ve been doing all my tests.

I need to do a bit of digging here as I can’t replicate it on my devices.

If we can help out with logs let us know.

I did a little bit more testing. My observation that the desired behavior works in INBOX and not in a user folder was coincidence.
There are two cases that need to be distinguished:A) sender’s address in email and email address in contact match when comparison is done case insensitive, but do not match when done case sensitive (e.g. email from “SomeName@domain.com” vs. stored “somename@domain.com” in address book)
B) sender’s address in email and email address in contact match when comparison is done case sensitiveIn my tests the cases where tapping on the sender opened the contact right away (and didn’t show the address) were of type B. The cases that showed the desired behavior were of type A.

I believe I have replicated this, we will try and fix it in the next release. Thanks for all the detailed info here!
