Today, there is no way to get to Settings from any other presentation than when seeing the message list for a folder within an account. That’s it. Pressing the MENU button while anything else is on the screen does NOT present “Settings” in the popup menu. This is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING AND INCONVENIENT, since this further means Mail Rules maintenance cannot be performed except when viewing some folder contents, since Mail Rules is reached from Settings -> Advanced and no other way.

The desire to add the sender of an email to a new or existing Mail Rule (and also possibly to create a new folder to receive incoming mail from that sender) commonly occurs while READING an email from that sender, and suddenly deciding this is going to be a frequent correspondent and that having a dedicated folder for that sender and having a corresponding Mail Rule to place new incoming mail from that sender into that folder is what I now want to do.

Unfortunately, this decision is not easily implemented, because neither “Settings” nor “Mail Rules” is available from the popup menu from the MENU button while actually reading this email from this sender… which is also the only way the actual email address of that sender can be seen, which is what must be manually entered in to the “match by” of a Mail Rule. I’ve already suggested that some new automatic, convenient and user-friendly button be available to “add the current sender to a Mail Rule” but that’s till just a suggestion to really make things easy for the user.

But at the very least, if at the very least the “Settings” or “Mail Rules” items could be added to the popup menu from the MENU button while reading an email so that the sender’s email address could be expanded and seen… well that would really help greatly. If “Mail Rules” were on the menu, then tapping it should go directly to the Mail Rules dialog. If “Settings” were on the menu, then tapping it should present the Settings dialog where I could then navigate to Advanced -> Mail Rules. Obviously having just “Mail Rules” on the menu would be the most convenient addition for the user, since this is really the functionality I now desire to reach.

Also, it would be great if a long-press on the expanded email address while reading an email would offer “copy to clipboard”, so that I could then “paste from clipboard” when I eventually get to the Mail Rules dialog and want to add the sender’s email address in the “match by” list. The program today does not offer any conveniences or shortcut way to enter the sender’s email address, other than manually typing it out on the keyboard while in Mail Rules. If at the very least I could have been able to “copy to clipboard” on the expanded email address field while reading the email, and then also “paste from clipboard” while adding the new “match by” item in the Mail Rules dialog, well at least the program would have been improved significantly and become much more user-friendly for this function.
